Businesses must challenge themselves to develop environmentally friendly products that also are interesting and price competitive. An environmentally-friendly option should not seem like the necessary evil but be an attractive alternative.
Alelion Energy Systems has ever since its early days developed battery products based on lithium-ion technology. We have continuously found evidence showing that this technology is the best alternative in order to create applications that are gentler to the environment than conventional technology and also an alternative that provides competitive operational efficiencies with an ROI (return on investment) of 1-3 years. Battery technology based on lithium-ion is our passion.
Our truck batteries are an example of this. Until recently, lead batteries have been the only option for electric trucks - a bad choice from environmental, efficiency as well as economic points of view. Therefore, we have had to find other alternatives. We now have a solution available for trucks that we have developed jointly with our major customers.
Technology and innovation for batteries are constantly progressing, and Alelion is at the forefront of designing better energy solutions. Today’s batteries are significantly better than just 5-10 years ago, with higher energy density, better efficiency and with a tolerance for more charging cycles and deeper discharge.
The extensive use of fossil, non-renewable fuels we see today is one of the absolute biggest problems we have, both from an economic and an environmental perspective. The largest sources of emissions can be traced to the transportation and energy sectors. To successfully reduce the total amount of emissions and achieve sustainable developments within these sectors requires technology that efficiently conserve and carefully utilise energy from renewable resources such as solar and wind power. Lithium-ion batteries are key in being successful with this.
The cells in Alelion's lithium-ion batteries can store large amounts of energy, as the energy density is twice as high as a cell in a conventional lead-acid battery. The higher energy density means lithium-ion batteries only need to be half the size to store the same amount of energy. In addition, they weigh significantly less because they contain no lead which is a very heavy substance. Moreover, lead is a substance we want to eliminate entirely, as it is highly toxic.
The full potential of a lithium-ion battery is reached only when the trucks are designed for these batteries. Today, the lead-acid batteries are simply replaced with a lithium-ion battery, which means weight has to be added in order to maintain the total weight of the truck. The latest generation lithium-ion batteries from Alelion have many advantages. They are cheaper, better and more environmentally friendly than their predecessors, and can store enough energy to be reliable even in industrial plants with high energy consumption.
We are convinced that lithium-ion batteries is how energy will be stored in the future, so we have high expectations about what the future will offer in terms of increased efficiency and energy density in the batteries.

We are constantly developing the technology to find the most optimal solutions to respond to the demands from different industries. Technology is not the only focus when new systems are developed, however. The sustainability of the technologies is at least as important. It's also essential that the batteries do not become too expensive to make. More industries must be able to afford the transition to smarter energy storage, even in developing countries.
Alelion is participating in this development by investing in a new factory in Gothenburg, which will be completed in 2018. The plant will have significant importance in our future development. The new battery factory can quickly be reset to manufacture new revolutionary energy storage systems to meet the energy challenges of the future.
