Forklift batteries

Are forklifts with lead-acid batteries an important part of your business? If so, then switching to Alelion lithium-ion batteries will save you both time and money and protect the environment as well. Forklift batteries are thus no longer a nuisance. With Alelion’s lithium-ion batteries there is no need for time-consuming battery changes between work shifts, regular maintenance of batteries or charging rooms with expensive ventilation. The cells in our lithium-ion batteries are powerful, and highly reliable.

Advantages – lithium-ion batteries for forklifts

  • Generates less heat when charged and used
  • Three times longer lifespan
  • Faster charging than lead-acid batteries
  • No battery changes or heavy lifting of batteries in between work shifts
  • Maintenance-free
  • Lithium-ion batteries maintain their voltage throughout the entire discharge cycle
  • No emissions of hazardous oxyhydrogen vapours during charging
  • No need for special purpose charging rooms
  • Increased productivity in the business operations
  • Long-term lower costs compared to lead-acid batteries
  • Less energy usage and lower emissions into the environment

Lithium-ion batteries for forklifts – increased power,

throughout the work shift

Alelion batteries are designed to be more durable. We understand the need for batteries made for rough circumstances. With the most efficient and toughest battery cells available in the market, we offer up to three times longer lifespan than lead-acid batteries.

New users of lithium technology trucks directly notice the increased power throughout the entire work shift. This is because an Alelion's truck battery does not lose power when the battery voltage drops, unlike lead-acid batteries, which lose power as the charge of the battery drops.

We deliver customised lithium-ion batteries for trucks based on the required capacity. Alelion sets personal and operation safety as its most important priority. That’s why we have decided to use the same high performance, high safety and durable battery cells as the automotive industry.

Alelion does not manufacture the cells. Our strategy is instead to use the most applicable cell for each industrial application as they are progressively introduced to the market and to optimise the choice of cells with the manufacturing of batteries while having our in-house designed BMS system for each individual industry. This way, we are not limited to a certain type of cells or a certain capacity and can instead offer flexibility to our customers.

Increased efficiency and productivity lead to more advantages in buying lithium-ion batteries for forklifts.

Optimised weight and performance

A common view is that lithium-ion batteries are too light to be a counterbalance in a forklift. This is only partly correct. The batteries themselves are too light to function as a counterbalance. This is partly because lithium-ion batteries do not contain any lead and partly because the energy density in the lithium-ion batteries means the batteries do not need to be very big.

The problem with lower counterbalance is easily solved by constructing forklifts to carry extra ballast and by the fact that forklifts with lithium-ion batteries are usually more compact. The advantages of lithium-ion batteries remain, even when extra ballast is loaded to the forklift. Lead-acid batteries are always oversized for what they are used for. This is necessary as compensation for the power the battery loses when its charge drops.

The weight and size of a lithium-ion battery can be customised for specific conditions and thus optimise the performance of the forklift. Alelion always modifies the batteries based on the manufacturers or users requests and specifications. That way, the customer can be confident the battery has been fully optimised for the unique conditions and challenges it will operate under. If frequent recharges are possible, then a smaller battery is always the best choice as this will save both money and the environment.

The environment and the wellbeing of the user

Lead is a heavy metal that is very harmful for both humans and animals. Today, lead is illegal in the vast majority of applications, such as in colour pigments or as admixture in fuels. An important advantage of lithium-ion batteries is that lead consumption decreases while safety for people handling batteries is improving. Switching to lithium-ion batteries means many hazardous and time-consuming work processes are eliminated. Heavy battery replacements and refilling of water are examples of redundant tasks. Further, there is no need for charging rooms with expensive ventilation, meaning your floor space can be utilised in a more productive way.

Further, lithium technology allows for less energy use, which has a positive impact on both environment and finances. The reduced energy consumption helps in achieving sustainability goals.

The end customer’s actions impact on how much of the available savings in CO2 equivalents and energy will actually be realised. Lithium-ion technology allows for fast and frequent charging of forklifts and batteries. This is not possible with lead-acid batteries. If the end customer can schedule in recharging during the workday, then a lower capacity battery can be chosen. This brings many advantages for the environment as the production of cells and batteries in itself is highly resource-intense. This is the same logic as when an individual buys a car with a smaller battery that needs frequent charging, instead of buying a higher capacity vehicle that can be driven longer distances without being charged.

Energy storage

Alelion does not only manufacture industrial truck batteries. We also build full-scale energy storage systems ideal for other climate-smart solutions, such as solar and wind power.

Using energy storing batteries for energy storage from renewable energy sources means there is no longer a requirement to use the energy the same second it is being generated. It is possible to store the energy generated by a windmill during a stormy night and use it the next morning when the trucks are once again in operation. In addition to storing energy, the batteries can facilitate keeping energy consumption even and avoiding peaks in energy use.
